Welcome to Mr Mann's Biology!
This website was "born" on 8 February 2013 and is still under construction. A big thank you goes out to colleagues who have shared their ideas with me, some of which are included here.
I have added several crosswords where I have used UK English spellings. I have searched for images that improve the visual impact of the site and add interest. Many of these are in the public domain. However, if you find something of yours and you are unhappy with its inclusion here, please use the blog and I will happily replace it with an alternative. I hope to add a contact page soon. Some of the images are my own such as the Clouded Apollo (Parnassius mnemosyne) butterfly and the Cockchafer (Melolontha melolontha) beetle below, which were both taken while doing fieldwork on the banks of the Istra reservoir in Russia.
If you are a teacher, I hope that you find the resources useful. If you are a student, I trust that this site will help reinforce what you have covered in your lessons. Clearly, when the slides are used in class, they are accompanied by a narration that adds further explanation. There are some very good sites that are more wordy. My aim is to produce a stimulating website for "visual learners" like myself, but it should be used alongside suitable textbooks. It is through the study of multiple sources and interacting with others that concepts develop in our minds and our understanding gains clarity.
It had been my intention to completely cover the IB Biology Programme. However, a career move to Kazakhstan in 2013 meant moving away from teaching the IB Diploma programme after teaching it for ten years. However, I continued to add my presentations, quizzes and puzzles to the Nazarbayev Intellectual School (NIS) pages.
From January 2015 to July 2017 I was teaching in Scotland and the added content was for the Scottish curriculum.
As of August 2017, I am working for Haileybury Astana and future materials will be added under the Astana tab in the menu.
Material under the "IB Diploma Biology" section was produced for the 2009-2016 course. These materials will be updated under the Astana section.
