Homework for 9 April 2018

  1. Using a spring of medium hardness, determine the length or extension of the spring when adding 0, 50, 100 and 250 grams. Record your results in a carefully drawn table. Draw a line graph.
  2. Make spring 3 of maximum hardness. Again add 0, 50, 100, 250 grams. Record your results and add the values to the same axes.
  3. Briefly comment on the effect of the hardness of the spring on its elasticity.
  4. Using spring 2 set at medium hardness, determine the three unknown masses. Show your results in a table (no further graph required).
Optional extension:
Compare the resulting extension on Jupiter, Earth, Moon and Planet X. Why is there no extension when g=0? How did you ensure a fair test?
